Song Of the Day: February 8, 2005

The Tony Head Experience-Debbie One

"Sleeper EP," Big Internation Records, 1991.

Another indie-pop single picked up from picked up from Parasol Mailorder back in the days when it was housed in Geoff Merrit's basement. Although this UK band did have other releases, I really don't know anything about them other than this track resembles Blondie a bit, and it has made its way onto plenty of mix tapes over the past 14 years.

Cats (and Jon), this track is amazing! A true Little Hit. The thing I love about tracks like this one, the production is poor, yet adds charm, but the *song* shines right through it all. So damn catchy, such a great hook, I can see why this made its way onto many mix tapes. Thanks!!

The Tony Head Experience were from Glastonbury, I think they had two other singles. I saw them live a number of times and was in touch with their guitarist, who sent me a tape of everything they'd ever recorded. Their newer stuff was fantastic, had a harder edge and was more like the Pixies. They were close to signing a record deal in about 1993/4 and had recorded almost an album's worth of excellent material - but I don't know what happened to them after that. I have lots of good photo's of them live.

This song takes me back to Saturday afternoons back in the nineties when I used to listen to an excellant radio show back in RI called the Pop Shop. Great song

A fantastic band. Some great songs. A shame they never made it big. If they'd like to make the album available, I'd download it now.
