Song Of the Day: July 18, 2005
Four Letter Words was a wonderful budget 45 label run by Maz of the Mummies. Recording, as evidenced here, was done in primitive circumstances. The records were one-sided to save on mastering costs, and the sleeves were those prefabricated die cut thingies which were subsequently silk-screened. They're really beautiful little objects. This track by the gloriously hooky Tiger Trap is one of the best things the label issued, although first prize would almost certainly go to Allan Clapp's "Change In the Weather."

Your record player must run a little more slowly than mine; I remember this song seeming much higher and faster back in the day!
Sounds just how I remember...glorious!
I discovered this splendid site today, and just spent an enjoyable hour investigating your entertaining archives, but at the same time lamenting the fact that I didn't discover Little Hits earlier -- I missed out on hearing plenty of great stuff! You and your scruffy "editorial staff" are first rate. I've added LH to my favorites and promise to check in often!
I checked back into the site again tonight and discovered that pretty much all of the mp3s are still available for downloading. I incorrectly assumed that they'd be gone after a week --that seems to be the norm with most blog sites. Anyway, my 56K modem is working overtime gathering up the goods. So where can I send that case of 9-Lives for you and your editorial staff?;)
I love how it sounds like the band is falling apart every fifth chord or so, except it's on purpose.
"Throw your penny in my fountain"? Genius.
Brian, this is the original version of the song, which i believe was their first recording (Jon back me up)....the version on the LP is much faster
