Song Of the Day: August 11, 2005
Still in that revo-psych mode today, so allow us to present Germany's Broken Jug. You may have accidentally passed over the Jug's William LP, from whence "Promised Land;" it has a hideous and unreadable jacket that makes it look like a Coil record or something. Fairly covers-heavy (Outcasts, Unrelated Segments, etc.) but worth it, if just for this track alone. This mix is allegedly unique to the 45, but the differences are subtle indeed.

Oh dear, haven't heard that band in ages, and I never would have thought, that somebody outside of Germany noticed them. They came from the very small and very catholic town of Bamberg in Bavaria, but being a small-town band was briefly quite hip in those days. That must have been one of the first releases of the Glitterhouse label, itself a small-town operation, and since Glitterhouse were also Sub Pop Europe back then, that was probably the coolest place to put your record out.
Glitterhouse had many of the best German bands back then - Ferryboat Bill, First Things First, The Politicians - and "Promised Land" did get played quite a bit in the cooler clubs and radio shows. (I myself must have put it on half a dozen mix tapes.) Sadly, they didn't last very long, two or three albums and that was about it, and the members all but disappeared, as far as I know. But nice to hear them again, anyway.
we are still alive ... in some way. the "ghost" of broken jug still exists! although some ex-members are mostly focused on family-life, our attitude and love for music formed out some side projects and another band, called "vampire lesbians of sodom". we still kick out the jams, mf ;-)! i feel deeply honoured getin´reputations online and worldwide. there must be a "spirtual" meaning for having tinnitus and wrist-problems *lol*
cheers --- blacky, ex-drummer of "the broken jug"
