Song Of the Day: May 16, 2005
The X-Teens-Venus
From the "Big Boy's Dream" EP,
Moonlight Records, 1980
Elvis Costello and Talking Heads have been cited as important influences on this Chapel Hill combo; on the charming "Venus" it is clearly the former that is predominant. The "Big Boy's Dream" EP was the first of several X-Teens releases and was produced by...surprise!...Don Dixon. They would later comply with the 1982 law that required all southern pop bands to work with Mitch Easter; he produced their eponymous LP on Dolphin (See also: Tommy Keene, Lifeboat) in 1983.

I have always loved the X-Teens. We had a local video channel that used to show the same X-Teens video a thousand times a day and I loved it every time. I can't believe you found an X-Teens song I've never heard Jon. Darn you. Ha Ha.

Jon, minor correction - X-Teens hail from Durham, not Chapel Hill.
Fantom is right. We were in Durham at the time, although we constantly gigged nearby Chapel Hill. We're flirting with a reunion gig or two, but coordinating schedules among middle aged professionals with 12 kids among us all is a bit dodgy.
Here's my jukebox of stuff I've been working on since then.
I welcome all feedback!
