Song Of the Day: July 22, 2005

Charlie Fawn - Blue Skies

Hansa Records 45, 1979

Charlie Fawn's debut 45 is a pretty tasty bit of UK power pop; sources who should know report that the self-titled LP from which it comes is quite solid indeed. All of Mr. Fawn's records that we've heard are worth a listen, especially his second single "Hothead Handshake Tremble."

My favorite Charlie Fawn song is "Paper Trails". Off the self-titled LP. There's also an unreleased LP of Fawn tunes.

Dressed as a 'clean' Sid Vicious... My favourite tune is 'Death or glory brigade', indeed about the explosion of punk rock.

I've listened to this song quite a bit now and it gets better everytime. Just quality! Top quality powerpop!

Hi. I was the drummer in Charlie's band "Battersea". We released a single on Anchor Records in 1978, a cover version of the Bacharach/David song "Always Something There To Remind Me".

Typically our management went for the cover version even though we had a repertoire of around 20 original and mostly strong songs. Needless to say, the single died a death, mainly because it was never promoted.

I'd like to get back in contact with Charlie but his web site is no longer in existence - can anyone steer me in the right direction ?
