Song Of the Day: August 4, 2005
Snips (a.k.a. Steve Parsons) had a legit career in the straight rock world with Sharks and the Baker Gurvitz Army before the punk explosion, but proved himself extremely adaptable by making some beguiling new wave pop singles. This one, which had Midge Ure of Ultravox in the producer's chair, is perhaps his finest, and it really seems like it would make a great cover for some hip young band like the French Kicks.

showing up at more than one blog because of one reason. It is a terrific song.
yeah i'm going to link to this gem, too. Do you hear that popular Strokes song that this tune predicts? "I don't see it that way..."
This is a cover by somebody else...and I'm totally blanking on who. Please check the songwriting credits and let us know, thanks.
This song was written by Parsons (Snips)
Best,
Jon
Yeah, right after I made that post about "9 O'Clock" being a cover, I realized that I had actually heard the song covered by somebody else. If it wasn't Nick Heyward, then it was certainly somebody with a similar style. The song sounds really nice as strummy acoustic pop. Now if I could only remember who covered it...
Snips was one of the most under-rated vocalists & songwriters of the 80s...he had a unique kind of voice, it could be totally rough or totally as smooth as a crooner.
Both of his solo LPs were VERY good records indeed. if you love 80s pop, please try to locate them
Long Love the Video Kings + La Rocca.

Snips (real name Steve Parsons) made a string of brilliant singles, and one LP La Rocca, for EMI in early 80's. He appeared on a BBC In Concert from Paris Theatre 22.03.80 with Midge Ure in backing band(Midge produced 9 O'Clock and several b-sides of singles that followed.) I have a cassette recording of this great 1/2 hour show (Let's Go to Work, Mr.Machine, I Am The Line, Baby, Rat Catcher, Lolita and Police Car). Wish someone would put out a cd of his EMI stuff and perhaps include this show. Bloke down road from me in Herefordshire Geoff Haslam (Producer of VU's Loaded!) produced his last 7" You're A Wonderful One.
