Song Of the Day: October 28, 2005
Worth every penny. I was spinning this the other night while the most amiable Shamrock J. Cat sat on the arm of my chair and grinned his handsome grin. Mickey came prancing in and said "Hey this is cool. But what's up with you guys? I thought Shammy liked punk rock." Mr. Cat replied patiently that in his estimation playing music this wimpy and singing with fey English accents in Memphis in 1965 was likely to get the performer beat up, and that therefore this was punk rock. Then he offered to beat Mickey up so that he could be punk rock too. Mr. Cat is getting a bit cranky in his old age.
I tried to encode this at a better rate to make up for the craptacular sound quality.

Nice tune.
Mr.Cat always was the smart one.
However, it was my understanding that it was you, Jon, with the handsome grin.
This is further demonstration of why Little Hits is my favorite website. Lots of cool 'n' engaging obscurities from then, now and in-between, the kind of stuff you can't find anywhere else, and I've only heard a fraction of it before discovering it on Little Hits. The Castells record is another great pop find. (Any chance you have The Clingers' "Gonna Have A Good Time" poised for a future Song Of The Day?"
Is this one of those songs that Bruce Johnston had a hand in producing? I used to have a CD-R or tape (remember those things?) of a bunch of '60s SoCal stuff that was produced by soon-to-be Beach Boy Bruce Johnston. It was good stuff. The Castells stuff stands out in my memory.
Carl-
I don't Know that one. Tell me more.
Jim-
No, these guys were from Memphis. Apparently they had several 45s.
Best,
Jon
The Clingers were an all-female group in the late '60s, and I believe they were an offshoot of The King Family (of all people). I saw THe Clingers on a rerun of the Smothers Brothers show, covering The Easybeats' "Gonna Have A Good Time," and have wanted to own a copy of it ever since.
Hey Carl!
It's Mark H, formerly from the station. Yes, I dig this site too but never seem to get here frequently enough - always playing catch-up. Good tunes.
