Song Of the Day: April 24, 2006
You might recognize Ellie Marshall as the woman who asked Jonathan Richman questions like "Have you ever been to Bermuda?" or as a guest vocalist on a Big Dipper B-side, but before that she had a band with her three brothers called, appropriately enough, the Marshalls. Besides this single, they made a couple of compilation appearances on the first volume of Bomp's Waves, and The Boston Incest Album, as well as a 45 with Professor Anonymous. I'm thinking there may have been a second Marshalls 45 as well, but perhaps I'm confusing it with the latter.

Blogger's acting up, I see.
Ellie Marshall also made a record with Christmas called "Ciao Allston."
Allston, coincidentally, is where I live. It's also apparently the only city in the country named after a painter.

Christmas Elf! An excellent kids Xmas tune!
I always get the hint that you are from the Boston area - as I am. I used to see ALL the must-see's in the 70-80 era.
How about (if you are so inclined) a rash of postings all centered around the Boston scene? Off the top of my head ... Human Sexual Response, Neighborhoods, Atlantics, Rings,
Great job, man!
Kevin
To clarify: Jon Harrison's from Kansas. Andrew Chalfen is from Boston, although he lives and works in the Philadelphia area now. (I'd like to put in a plug for his band the Trolleyvox, incidentally.) Although I'm originally from a succession of rural communities and college towns in Texas, Colorado, Kansas and New Mexico, I live in Boston now.
My wife, a townie all her life, has a fairly enormous collection of local LPs and 7"s, and I occasionally tap into them. She worshiped the Humans in particular, and I'm sure I'll offer up one of their songs eventually. Quite possibly "Pound."
See my post on the Atlantics a few months back.
Ellie Marshall also was part of a late incarnation of The Modern Lovers in the early 1980's, most notably on the Sire LP "Jonathan Sings!" I saw Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers three times during the period between 1980 - 1983 and Ellie was singing backup on those tours.
Andrew - Kevin again. I did see the post a short while back and it prompted me to take out the LP. Can I get a little love on "Can't Wait Forever"? WOW! I tell you, those guys live were unreachable! To this day I still moan to anyone who listens as to why they were never huge! Don't get me started.
Does your wife remember Third Rail, The Rings, Neighborhoods ...?
I have all those albums/45's!

Hmm...maybe I should post a Rings song at some point. Don't wanna overdue it with the Boston bands. I've got a few more on deck (Neats, Turbines, etc).
Kevin again - if you consider a Rings blog, do give in to the urge to post 'Watch You Break'. One of the more sublime and thoughtful songs of the era in Boston from which it came.
Damn - gotta try to dig that one out - now it'll be in me head for days!
Keep it going - your doing a great job!
Hey need any tunes - I'm starting to supply a few blogs (Soul Shower) and am starting to guest post.
Anyway - great effort your giving up!
Kevin

Ellie Marshall also sang backup for Ronee Blakley in the mid-1980's.
